The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is a UN specialized agency that oversees the world's intellectual property rights.

The United International Bureaux for the Protection of Intellectual Property (BIRPI), formerly the joint secretariat of the Paris Convention, which deals with the copyright treaties of 1886 and the industrial property rights of 1883, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) was established to protect intellectual property and encourage creative activities by conclusion of agreement in Stockholm, Sweden in 1967 and effectivation of the WIPO foundation agreement in 1970.
In 1974, the headquarters of WIPO, the UN specialized agency is located in Geneva, Switzerland and has a federal office in the UN headquarter in New York.
